I posted some questions regarding a puzzling mystery lantern I recently purchased over on the general discussion forum, and I wanted to post a few photos of the burner and valve details over here for your perusal. I am starting to thing there are quite a few custom-fabricated parts on this lantern, or at least heavily modified bits from factory made lanterns. First, you can see that the valve assembly itself looks like something from the 1920s with that fiber valve wheel. However, the cleaning needle control spindle doohickey and stuffing box appear to have been brazed on some time later. The cleaning needle eccentric looks to be hand made and has indications of hand-filing and drilling The generator appears unmarked, but it looks Coleman-ish to me, but perhaps someone else will know for sure. The burner itself has a cast iron mixing chamber and J-tube, but the air intake tube and lower plate appear to be shop-made. It is hard to make out in the photos, but there are layout marks indicating where to drill the holes in the lower (Brass) plate. More to come when I actually have some time to properly clean up everything and hopefully get this oddball running! Cheers, Doug Eisemann
Doug Eisemann Saw your other post ,with this extra detail I can see resemblance to Gloria/Collins Bros in what you show
Indeed, I can see some strong resemblance to the US made Gloria burner, at least in the upper cast-iron portion. The rest of the bits, it is hard to tell. I appreciate the help, but I may just have to put this one in the "hybrid" or "one-off" category. Not an especially attractive or remarkable lantern, but I think I'll keep it. Hopefully I can actually get it running again. Thanks again for the assistance from all! Cheers, Doug
