Hi everyone, An update on my first restoration project. It is very nearly complete! My goodness this is an addictive pastime! 20+ odd years in a shed hadn't done her any good but I've got it well cleaned up and fully functioning... Thanks for all the advice, encouragement and generosity! Just need to attach a new mantle and i'll be a happy!
Looking a lot better- but be warned... Once you fettle and light the first one there's no going back!
Nice work, Tim. Can you post a photo of the pump out of the tank? I think it’s the same as one I have. Tony
Tony, It might be a bit of a hybrid but it's the one that came with the lamp so i've kept it as was, except for the original nut which was broken so I used a 2nd hand replacement which is fairly close to the original but not identical. I haven't seen too many with this style of pump knob. Tim
@Tim P you have done an excellent job fettling the X246. She certainly looks a treat, the difference of the before and after is astounding. Now we need to see the money shot. Of course you know, after you have lit her, and experienced the satisfaction of a job well done you are gunna be hooked Cheers Pete
Looking good Tim, well saved... it’s a bit sad for one lamp to be on its own, it needs a mate or twenty. Are you hooked? Stevie
Stevie... @BigStevie You are quite right! It is hard not to get hooked! Fear not... the Tilley’s mate is under way! A very rusty Bialaddin 300x
Good on you @Tim P. You’ll find the Bialaddin 300X a well made lantern. Enjoy your fettling, there will be many more to follow I’m sure. Cheers Pete
