Well sometimes you get that change: buying a lot of lanterns. I went for this lot 5 Coleman 236 lantern including boxes for serious money. So far so good. But you are always at the mercey of the seller and its packing skills. lamps arrived in a big box, sideways and for some stupid reason with the top loose in the boxes. Result four broken 236 globes.... So I will gladly accept any globe donations. Who knows an address for resonable price globes ?
Heartbreaking Wim. Good luck with finding replacements, I’ve been looking for an original globe for my Coleman 201 for ages.
The stuff of nightmares. I’ve had this happen twice, that was bad enough. In both cases it was very poor packing by the seller. Hope you find globes, have you tried the Old Coleman Part site? OldColemanParts.com Cheers Pete
If it was from ebay you would have a good case for a partial refund. Original globes are expensive if you can find them at all. Chinese made Coleman replacement globes are cheap enough and available from multiple sources.
So now I am seaching for a Coleman 236 (660) globe I found that there are some variations as for text and origine. Can some one enlighten me as for text, colour and dates, please ?
Dates: 10-62 11-61 11-61 12-62 09-62 All Made In Canada The 1962 versions have an extra Coleman sticker. Today I emptied the tanks ! Would have made a difference of almost 4kg in package weight. Now for restoration, clean up: All have this black tar like corrosion on the bridge part. What is this and how to clean it ? Is it soot etc. or corrosion of the metal ? Are these red marked points rivets ? As for parts: who sells parts besides oldcolemanparts.com ?
The circled points are not rivets they are targets to locate the castings in the jig for machining. These are castings so you clean by heat and quench. Not likely to be corrosion so you can be quite brutal with that part of the burners. There are other Coleman suppliers and you can find them here Coleman – High-quality Camping Gear & Outdoor Equipment but they don't often have obsolete parts so in general for our older lamps OCP are cheapest and best. ::Neil::
Hello Neil, Thanks. Cleans up not to bad indeed. I also found out that generators can get stuck in the casting. Now for the boxes. I have the original boxes in more or less condition. Considering the age they look good. Repairing then as far as I can I was wondering if someone out there is making replacement cases. Or has the decals, tape etc. In Germany there was a guy who made HASAG repro boxes, complete with the right staples. As for the European Coleman site, it can't even find a globe in the UK. So indeed absolete parts would be a no no.
Thanks @phaedrus42, I know these I found to but they are marked made in china.... To stay a little time period correct I am looking for the red marked made in USA. Or correct the sun logo red text made in usa, but these seem to be almost impossible to get.
In the interim, you could easily remove the Made in China with a polishing wheel and brown polish cake. At $10 per globe you can hardly lose...
That is the idea yes but when I order 5 globes I have to pay 90 euros for shipping besides the 50 for the globes. So I am looking for a seller somewhat nearer for the moment.
It might be advisable to subscribe to a courier service which provides shipping addresses in many countries. They only charge by mass and not by volume. With Aramex I currently pay about 18 euro for the first 1kg and 6.5 euro per 0.5kg thereafter. Delivery takes about a week from anywhere in the world to my doorstep. So it would cost roughly 100 Euros for the 5 globes including fast shipping to me.
Wow - what a great find!! The 236 is probably my favourite lantern..... to find five and in such great condition with their boxes is an incredible find. Sorry about the loss of four globes, that would be very upsetting. I suppose this has happened to all of us - consider it the cost of doing business. You will be amazed at how well they will clean up/restore. They can be a little thirsty and the generators are expensive/hard to find (though repros are available) but they are one of Coleman's finest!!
The webshop ships to your shipping address inside that country. Your courier receives it at that address and brings it to you.
