    That's a deal...if actually works OK?

Can you share your thoughts/experience once you've used it in anger?

I tried the Stihl Motoplus yesterday. Great in the Coleman 282 lantern but slightly "spitty" in my Optimus 324 stove.

Hi.. Well this Holts Brake cleaner ... I do not have any petrol lamps .. I am all oil / paraffin ... but what I do have is a nice selection of petrol handwarmers which I use in the colder months... One can use lighter fuel..... 100 - 133 ml for a small tin Swan/ Zippo £1..£2 // and more ....and if you do it becomes costly ... but the other alternative fuel is Naptha .. or Aspen distillate petrol. £18 for 4 litres.

Now Naptha can be Panel Wipe ..alcohol based ( slow or fast ) .. or as I have learnt Brake Fluid .. a light
hydrated Naptha .. Holts Brake cleaner ..

Hey Ho.... so I bought 5 ltr tin of Holts brake cleaner ... £10.56 p + syphoned some off .. filled my JON E .G I .. USA handwarmer and guess what .. its is still going very nicely some 12 hrs later shows no sign of cooling... running brilliantly ...I have been outside most of the day ... so whilst I am unable to tell you about the Holts BC in a petrol lamp ... I see no reason to believe that it would not work... say in a Coleman lamp. ..It appears to be good tack ..

let Winter cold do its worst .. I am stocked up now .. bring it on .. :D/

In the first post it was mentioned that with postage the price is extreme. Is fuel allowed to be sent by Post?..I would be surprised...you are not allowed to send a lantern/stove with fuel...so??? Or was "post" used in error in this case?

God knows how the postal system handles these things!:-k I didn't think stuff like this could go through the mail but I guess as long as you "declare" it as a hazardous material making the authorities fully aware of it they will let it go through.[-X

I thought exactly the same. I worry about sending a dry tank that only ever had kero in it yet I can buy 5l of highly flammable petroleum spirit with one layer of thincardboard to protect it. Makes no sense!

Guys .. Regard comments above and delivery I can tell you that the 5 litre tin of fuel was solidly packed and wrapped by the vendor Zorotoolsuk in more than a thin cardboard carton .. .. appearing new stock to me .. There was no leakage and I was impressed .. delivered straight to me front door and signed for by the missus ..

It was delivered by Parcelforce 48 and I have put their details below .. I think they are a spin off from our Royal Mail .. but they are definitely another crew lot .. not the POST people.. just like a commercial transit carrier.. The rules must be quite different for them carrying fuel / combustibles as apart from the Royal who might refuse to deliver .. I do not really know .. anyway for those more wiser than me ..here is . a top service for me anyway

Well I've used it. Trouble is, they exclude my address because I live on the West Coast of Scotland. The government promised to stop this postcode nonsense but it appears not!

So it burns ok, lights easily, doesn't stink, doesn't clog up generators/vaporized in a nano-second, doesn't explode 30 metres from a lighted cigarette....these are the things we need to know!
    Arf....

This is what most of my gasoline lamps were running on at Ipswich recently. Good clean efficient fuel. ::Neil::

That Holts Brake Cleaner seems expensive compared with panel wipe from a fairly local supplier to the motor trade and public:-

    SWS Panel Wipe (5ltr)

I imagine it's near enough the same stuff - naphtha...

Just a quick one about Coleman fuel....I paid £6 for a litre in Ultimate Outdoors which is in the same group as Millets, and Blacks Camping. I only bought it as I have 2 lamps that use it, all the rest are Paraffin, and as such I've been looking at the cheaper Heating Kerosine, but thats a subject for another thread. So yes £6 is the cheapest Coleman white gas I have found lately.......

The Weicon brake cleaner might still burn ok in a 'gasoline' lantern but its not exactly an ideal substitute for Coleman Fuel, like the Holts brake cleaner, which is basically lighter aliphatic hydrocarbons. I'd suppose the Holts would be purely non-polar hydrocarbons. Whereas, the Weicon contains Acetone, which would attack the usual 'rubber' seals including Buna-N and Viton. It also contains an alcohol(propanol), which tends to attract moisture from the air if its left unused in the fount for a while. If it is purely the naphtha, it'd be ok otherwise. Nevertheless, it'll work great as what its meant for---as a brake cleaner.
Having said all that, I've yet to find a practical substitute that's easily available to the general public here in Malaysia. We do have the Holts Brake Cleaner but only in small aerosolized canisters, which is not a practical source of lantern fuel for me. I'm still on the lookout. Seems that nobody here uses furniture panel wipes.

@MYN The irony recently is I found local sellers here offering Coleman DualFuel stoves and the other coleman stoves. They do state clearly in their listings that the stoves would run on gasoline and coleman fuel. Naturally I asked about where then should I get the fuel if I were to get the stoves (no plans to get any stoves).

They couldn't answer my query, instead, link me up to some google search page selling the fuel can filling adapter. Another tells me will take 3 to 4 weeks shipment from abroad. I refuse to buy in into this rubbish. How can someone sell stuff without the essentials, fuel, for the use? Seems to me like an online white van scam.

In Malaysia, some Coleman outlets do have the newer liquid-fueled lanterns and stoves on their shelves. But again, no Coleman Fuel or Crown or Campfuel to be found.
I've asked the same questions as you did. They replied: you can use gasoline instead.:^o They're duel-fuel:lol:.
I said, they ain't the same as CF. Gasoline is no 'white gas', blah blah. Well, no avail.
Anyway, thanks...I'll think about it. Maybe next time. Then I left.
