Hi my Friends, In my sick search for lamps I have now found this model but it does not seem to be manufactured in Germany, the knobs are red and only the glass seems to be German. Do you know what Petromax models were manufactured outside Germany and at what time? I also have another question: Why does the word "Super" appear on some Petromax lamps? Is Super related to more light power? Regards from Southamerica.
I think the lantern has been altered. I don't see Petromax stamped on the one with the red pump. They both appear to be made some place other than Germany.
Hi Cesar, Hm.. no markings on the tank... Seemed to me someone mounted the red knobs of a China lantern ( Sea Anchor ? ) on your pump shafts.. When production of the Petromax in Germany stopped at the factory in Altena, production goes further at Hipolito in Portugal with the original machines and the Hipolito name was stamped on it and the seafury showed up at the top of the hood. I own a model H 502 and H 202 of them. Petromax ( original german ) from the ‘60 and on had blue knobs, the Hipolito’s had orange knobs After Hipolito closed down production of the 829 B it goes to China were it was made in the beginning ( mid ‘80’s ? ) at a very poor quality. Today quality control of this model is better now since the german Pelam imported them. ‘ Super ‘ doen not mean ‘ more light output than a standard one ‘ Best regards from the Netherlands, Tjerk
