I'm a new member and live in Santa Monica, CA., need help restoring and getting this PW L13? to light. I inherited it from my dad/mom, it sat in a barn in Stanwood, MI., for many years. I've got a mica chimney coming from Fred Kunst in Ohio. I think the collar on the pump is shot and needs replacing, I have not found a replacement and need help.:: Bruce IMG_3700.jpeg

I tried oldcolemanparts.com and Mike said he didn't have a collar for that pump.

What exactly are you in need of..? to me it looks like you are in need of the leather "pump Cup"If you are a bit handy you can make your own (Merry Christmas one and all!) or check for others on google

If you can't find the exact part (which wouldn't be surprising as it's an old model that was never made in vast numbers), you'll have to find alternative solutions.

You are talking about a pump collar... that's not a name many would recognise but is it a ring shaped piece of rubber? If it is you might be able to use an o ring. On eBay you'll find plenty of them in every possible diameter and thickness. Choose one that is made of Viton as it's fuel resistant.

If you can, can you take close up photo of the parts that are worn and we'll try to help.

It's a lovely old lamp and well worth spending time fixing up or 'fettling' as the folk here all it.

Bruce, i'm assuming by the pics you've posted you're trying to locate the leather pump cup for your lantern and there are two Coleman options available to you that may work; The model 427 used a smaller sized leather cup than did all other Coleman models which are a bit larger and OCP has both. It's worth a shot as they're very inexpensive. I hope this helps you. -Tom

The leather pump CUP looks to be home made and the diameter of the original flat leather disc was too large which is why it's puckered. It may still work but a pump CUP that fits better will work better. You may get away with "adjusting" the existing cup, or you may need to fit a new one, either way, you need to take this apart.

    It will look like this

To adjust the existing leather cup, flatten it out to form a disc and trim it so that it is around 7/8 inch diameter, reassemble and see how it fits. If it still puckers, reduce it some more - a little at a time until it's a nice fit, or you could follow @Tom Waite 's advice but check with Mike at Oldcolemanparts to make sure a 427 pump cup will fit a 5/8 inch pump tube (pump barrel). Don't worry if the hole in the middle is the wrong size, it's easy enough to alter.

A pump cup from an M1942, or M1950 military stove should do, or a cup for a 427 with the externally mounted pump. The internal pump 427 is too large. Mike at OCP carries both the stove and lantern cups.

Better yet, what's the inside diameter of the pump tube? I'm basing the two choices above on an approx. 15mm diameter cup, but I can compare your PW tube to the Colemans' above for a precise fit.

    Thanks,
    Mike.

I was able to soak the pump collar in oil and the fount now pressurizes, but.... when I turn the fuel valve 1/4 turn or more, there is no hissing sound that gas is being released. Do I need to remove this throttle valve assembly and see if there is rust in here? It does not seem to loosen easily so I haven't forced it: Bruce

There won't be any rust as such inside the valve because it's all brass so there may be some verdigris. Have a look here to see what you're dealing with. The first part is about an Aladdin PL1 so ignore that and scroll down to the second part.
    http://www.colemancollectorsforum.c...oleman-220-comparison-10038579?pid=1307645649

The first image shows the complete valve disassembled. Below the main body, you will see the fuel feed tube and next to it, something which looks like the gas tip from the generator and in fact it isn't much different. There is a tiny hole through which fuel vapours pass when you open the valve 1/4 turn to light the lantern and it may be that the hole is blocked with verdigris and the only way to get at it is to remove the valve from the fount which although not impossible, can be difficult if you haven't yet had much experience so before resorting to that, try the following method.
Mix 1 part ordinary vinegar with 3 parts water and pour it into the fount - a cup and a half of the mixture will be enough - and with the valve closed and filler cap / pump screwed down firmly, turn the lantern upside down and let it sit for a couple of hours, sloshing the vinegar around a few times may help loosen things up.
After couple of hours, turn the lantern right side up and pump in plenty (80 to 100 strokes) of air - there's no need to drain the vinegar - and open the valve 1/4 turn and see what happens. If nothing doing, turn it upside down again, give it another couple of hours and try again. Still nothing ? Let it sit overnight and try again in the morning. If you have a compressor you can also try blowing back through the valve but of course you'd have to make sure the pump was removed first and also the valve is no more than 1/4 turn open otherwise the air will go straight through the fuel feed and not clear the obstruction from air feed.
Hopefully this will cure the problem but if it doesn't, then the valve will have to come out. We're here to help so don't be afraid to ask.

Don't worry about 80 to 100 pump strokes, your thumb will break looooong before a Preway fount will.

Thanks, Bruce. That's the same diameter as a Coleman M1942/M1950 stove, so if your pump cup gives up the ghost, Old Coleman Parts will have you covered with that item. A common part.

Did the overnight soaking and a little more hiss heard when I open the fuel valve 1/4 turn, seems better, but not enough to light.
I'm waiting for a new pump cup and gasket to arrive to see if fount pressure will be better and fix the problem....:Bruce
