Original paint ....the repair dates are still visible on the bottom of the fount.....
And NO stress cracks in the fount which is really an added bonus on any AGM lantern.
Fred Kuntz mica really adds a nice touch in my opinion ......

I don't get envious of other peoples lamps very often but this is one of those times. Congratulations on a wonderful example of GPA history.

Nice lantern, other USFS AGM and a few Coleman found with the red vent have a white enameled underside, does this one ?

    Larry,

Can you recall if the Coleman's are date stamped? I do recall finding an article on the fact that both AGM and Coleman had won tenders for Forrest lanterns. This lantern may be able to be dated from that article. It does look like there are some dates scratched on the base plate. Those dates could have been put there at anytime during the lamps history and I wouldn't rely on those dates to date the lamp.

I was too late in editing my above post in the time permitted.

I found the article. It wasn't both AGM and Coleman lanterns that were to be purchased, it was going to be one of the two.

The article is dated 1930 and the Forest Service was going to purchase 200 lanterns.

Yes this has the white vent underneath.....Coleman and AGM both have the red vents with white underneath.......
Here’s a couple of my Colemans just to compare with CC35A169-F70F-4430-A69E-965BB0A05247.jpeg

I'll have to admit that AGM lanterns have some of the best looks.

    Thanks Mike.

Matty, the Coleman guide states the embossed type were from “May 1932 to October 1939”. There are other “FS” stamped or stippled type found earlier from “mid 20s to 1939”, the brimless red vents with white underside have also been found on eight lanterns not identified as FS from the mid twenties.
AGM brimless red vents with white underside are found in both slot screen and art deco screen types.
A brimless green vent with white underside has also been found on a Government SCS-FCW lantern dated 12/36.

    Larry,

Thanks for the terrific info and images. I kind of recall another Coleman lantern that had the white underside porcelain - a 247K? I can't say I ever knew AGM had white underside on some of their lanterns.

These USFS lanterns were purchased for use in “fire camps” and MAYBE this is one on the job ???? 645475F1-88D6-4856-9044-25F88DC5472E.jpeg
