The latest fettle arrived today, a US 1944 Mil-Spec conversion with a Coleman tank dated 11, 1941 and with the "US" Stamp on the base of the fount. Very pleased. Looking forwards to getting to grips with this one. Question: I've plenty of Coleman 220 sized glass with either red or white writing on them. Is there such a thing as a "clear" glass of this type with no markings on it? Ideally I'd love a period Coleman glass, but a glass with no markings on it would be the next best thing.
Can't say for sure what brand name it is but, yes there are unmarked globes that will fit the 220/228 type lantern. They are not very expensive either. Just keep an eye on eBay. They show up there quite often.
I saw one or two US pyrex versions of glass for these lanterns, I don’t know if they fit the period era but you can get unmarked 220 glass from American mantle company and they do sell on eBay too check this thread on CCF Us military lantern
@Alex Smith I don't know if you are interested but here is the link for the different unmarked Coleman replacement glass. Globes Just scowl down the page to find what you are looking for. I haven't had any problems with any of the glass globes I've ordered from American Mantle. Cheers, Norman
@Norman thank you, will drop them a email and see if they can dispatch to the the UK. P.S, you are the king of good links, you last helped out with my Optimus Fuel gauge glass. Thank you.
@Alex Smith You are welcome. If you need help with getting some of these glass globes let me know. I will be happy to help out. Cheers, Norman
American Mantle Company dispatch direct to the UK, using USPS. Payment via Paypal. I contacted the company via their "Need Assistance" email address: cdavids@americanmantle.us and have just placed my order with them, very quick, friendly and easy to deal with. Thank you @Norman for the tip.
It's worth having a look at the indoor lighting glass as well. At $9 a pop for Humphrey globes even with mail costs they are likely cheaper than a Tilley 182. The fittter size is good for Tilley galleries. They are Pyrex so work fine on table lamps and look sort of OK too. ::Neil::
Your welcome Alex. The Humphrey globes do indeed fit a Tilley Gallery quite well and as Neil pointed out, these globes do look different. Cheers, Norman
