Hey'yall, ....howdy, new to CPL & Lamps in general, but, I have a Hipolito 502 auto, ..... Been on it for days, finally got it running like a song, but I need to clean the exterior of the lamp, I have tried vinegar and foil etc, but it is far from being a stunner, any advice would be much appreciated..... Cheers

That depends on the "dirt' that is on the lantern.
Most of the time a good soap will wash most of the dirt of.
If you want to polish her up: use a polish you know. It is rather country dependable what polish you can buy.

@Burkster I second @podbros I use Autosol (can get it on line or halfords etc) and OOOO wire wool. This is a very fine grade wool used for french polishing, furniture restoration etc and shouldn't damage the finish on the fount.

Others have had good results with Harpic Cleaner to take the initial grime off. This post gives some detail Harpic Power Plus Max 10

If its chrome, washing up liquid and water. leave to soak in the dirt the lots of elbow grease with a rough face type cloth, nothing abrasive as it will scratch. After remove stubbon dirt with autosol and polish.

If its greasy, use parrafin on a cloth or paper towel, for sticky stuff use lighter fluid, (napthta) or WD40.

If brass and its surface corrosion use harpic black bottle, WITH CAUTION as its an ACID. Dont use brasso as it contains ammonia and can induce stress cracks in the brass.

Thanks Guys.... Here's she is,. Runs nice and smooth ( for now ), I had an anchor 25yrs ago for sea fishing, STUPIDLY, Got myself a Coleman Northstar, because it was easier / quicker to get going, ended up binning that , utter nuisance. Then I saw this beauty, she winked at me, so I bought her,. I've made myself a reflector and a cooking attachment for putting pies , pasties on etc when fishing the Mersey on them freezing cold nights
Yrs ago I made a reflector out of a tin of beans, take the top & bottom off, and cut down the middle, open it out an bingo, fits the glass perfect..... Homemade remedies

It will keep your coffee mug warm maybe even hot but I wouldn't depend on it as for cooking.
