Hi all, This is my example of this French 1930, parabolic heater, from the Société Francaise d´Incandescense par le Gaz (Système AUER). This one is identical to that heater Michel Binard has shown here on CPL on the French reference gallery. I think this parabolic heater was made of the French Vivier company (Louis Vivier) and rebadged and sold as an Auer heater. That is obviously the case with Vivier stove/heater combo "Le Jumeau", that also came in an "Auer" branded version. All the burner parts, the pump assembly and the pressure release screw are identical for the twin enamelled cast iron Vivier combo, Le Jumeau, and this Auer heater. Furthermore there is a catalogue drawing image of a parabolic heater from Vivier, also by the brand name "Le Jumeau", showing this heater. This Auer heater just needed some good clean up and it fired up nicely with a good performance, almost to good, as sweat was pouring down my neck trying to shoot the last photo shots! /Conny before…... 1932 catalogue image.... comparison Vivier "Le Jumeau" combo and the Auer heater…….. from a 30,s exhibition Vivier "Le Jumeau", both combo and heater…...
Hi Conny, Humm a good French parabolic heater and master restoration Thank for historic documents ! Regards, Titoo.
Very interesting, it appears to use a standard Primus type burner fitted with a perforated metal cover as a glowing element. Have just repaired my Primus No 5 stove and looks like could put a small perforated metal can over the burner along with a reflector. Would end up with a handy kero heater.
Thanks @ROBBO55, that has given me some good clues. Next time at the supermarket will have a look for a couple of pizza trays and some sort of bronze/copper dome. Might work.
Thanks all! Most French parabolic heaters are a delight to restore; nice design and reliable performance! /Conny
