I enjoyed the falkland video, the wildlife I didn't get to see when I was on the islands in my RAF days Thanks for sharing Jeff. Regards Ian.
The first link is for a rather sad fiddle tune, but there are some fine old photographs shown along with it, the second link is for more lively Shetland fiddle music.
This has been a fascinating thread! I just found it a few days ago and have read it all the way through. Thank you to all who have contributed!
This nature video may be of interest and the first snow showers of the winter arrived here yesterday, does anyone else have snow yet?
This link shows an old film about Fair Isle which is the most southerly of the Shetland islands. BBC Scotland - Fair Isle: Living on the Edge, BBC Archive: Man and the Land, Island Home
Jeff, Not that all your photos aren't amazing, I do particularly like this one. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful insight of the world back in the day. Jeff, you mentioned Esso. If not for the U.S. government taking action and forcing the Standard Oil Co to break up that company would now be he owners of the Earth. The Standard Oil Co had a finger in the pie of all things oil related and beyond. Because they had the vast majority of oil holdings within the U.S. they could control the price of oil. It didn't stop there though. In the GPA and non pressure lamp/stove/heater industry, they either started or bought out companies that manufactured oil users so they could then control the price of oil using appliances in the, lighting, heating and cooking, etc, categories. They did the same beyond our field of interest and the U.S. government became so nervous at the power the Standard Oil Co had, they took decisive action - before it was too late.
