This is a Nulite 203M gasoline, twin mantle, hanging light. They are not very common. It was found in Australia. These lights were manufactured from about 1922 and were sold in Australia up to at least 1927/8. This example most likely dates from after June 1924 (because of the stamping on the generator). I have used the components that came with the lamp to restore it. The new burner caps were with the lamp when I got it, indicating that someone may have started to restore this lamp at some stage. TRADE NULITE MARK (on the steel arm of the burner bracket). All I can make out on the opposite arm is ...STAMPING/...WKS CHICAGO 110M PATENTED MAY 9 1922/ JUNE 3 1924 Up and running Here with a different fitter (from a Nagel Chase table lamp) and a reproduction Miller-type shade). At full blast. As it came. This illustration is from a 1923 Nulite Catalogue. This advertisement is from the Sydney Mail, 16 November 1927. This advertisement is from the Farmer and Settler (Sydney) 24 June 1927. Aside from needing to clean up a dust and a few wasp nests, as well as giving the tank a thorough clean, this was a pretty straight forward fettle. After lighting it the first time, I re-rinsed the tank, and gave all the lines a blast with compressed air. It ran beautifully after that. The nickel plating is a bit rough, but not too bad. All round a great lamp! [Thanks to @Mackburner for model confirmation] Cheers Tony
Some additional notes: 1. The full indecipherable stamping on the burner frame is: "National Stamping & Elect. Wks. Chicago." 2. The 1922 Patent is shown here: https://classicpressurelamps.com/attachments/us1415180a-pdf-pdf.55782/ 3. This is the illustration from the 1924 Patent (I have not located the full text yet): Cheers Tony
An absolute beauty of a lamp, great find and well fettled. Another well documented and interesting post.
