So another lamp rolls off the production line, as they say.
I had 2 of these both steel tanks, both with pressure pips, remnants of red washers and vertical Patent number on the vaporiser so I’m happy with a 1943 (ish) date..:-k
The steel tanks whilst robust I find are more difficult to restore, strip any old paint, then in the ultrasonic tank, body filler for any deep undulations then primer, followed by wet and dry, more primer, wet and dry, repeat 3 or 4 times...you get the picture.

This is the paint combination, the primer I bought a load cheap from Newark Auto Jumble, amazingly it’s pretty good, the military paint I think it’s quite expensive and the coverage isn’t great, you end up with a mat finish. I applied the decal at this point then finished the whole tank with Halfords lacquer. 3 in total, wet and dry between coats.

All brass work cleaned and buffed, sadly the glass is cracked and enamel hood is not great.

I do like the Vapalux stamped filler cap.

I think that’s it on the fettle front for a bit, as I’m running out of space to keep them.

It's working very well, is the cracked glass holding up to the heat.

@Mr cod it appears to, the crack hasn’t got any worse anyway.

Which mantle can I use on a Vapalux 300, will a Tilley ‘X’ mantle do?

In principle yes but you may struggle to squeeze it over the stepped spigot on the 300 burner. If the spigot will unscrew you can pass it through the mantle then screw it back in and fit it over the burner.

Thanks Gary. Which other makes would do, I’ve got some Coleman and Veritas.

@Jean J not sure about the Coleman mantles, the Veritas if they are single tie, won’t fit but the Veritas brand, Tilley / Bialaddin ones will.
