Unscrews counter clockwise; best to hold shaft tightly with thin pliers and turn knob while protecting it with a padded set of pliers.

They can be stubborn with age.

It may lock in the counter clockwise position and come off with a little pressure. Tools as a last reaort only.

The knob is plastic with a brass core.

One more question now I have the knob off it. Does it take the 2 small gland washers like an X246B? Or just one? Thanks.

Two - but that seems like bad engineering practice to me and you can easily get away with using just one. Call me Mr Creosote - always on the fence.. ;)

I'd try using just one and if it's fine, keep the other one as a spare. If one doesn't seal (I've never known one not to) then fit the second...

Running perfectly, after working out that the tank/control cock washer goes in after taking out the tank clock ring. (I was wondering why the washers seemed too big!).

I have noticed with Tilley gland washers that there is a larger washer available, longer with a hole through instead of using 2 of the smaller washers.
