Greetings, The tank is cleaned for the most part and the seals are replaced. A leak revealed itself during a pressure test and has been fixed. I would have like to have seen the soldering job a bit more tidy but torch was being temperamental. I did get good fillets on the nut all the way around. The tank is on the 2nd pressure test and seems good so far. I'm waiting on parts and the globe cage needs a lot of cleaning. I also painted the in burner casing with VHT header paint. I thought "cast iron" was a black color but no, it's not. Probably a mistake but it is what it is. Cheers
I think that looks fine.. solder and paint will weather and I don’t think they will be visible? The main thing is you have fixed the leak and really tidied things up and prevented further corrosion
Here it is, before and after shots. I would have like to seen a bright a shiny Aida but this has its charm and a legit patina. The top ventilator is fixed, the vertical supports are still a little crinkled, all of the seals have been replaced, leak fixed and it is mostly smooth the touch. I also added a alcohol preheater and I don't know if that's to spec. The last thing to to complete is the pressure gauge. The hole for the release screw was swaged over top and I had to forced it out and the threads are a bit damaged. I'm trying to find a tap to clean up the threaded hole. The plan is to try lighting it up this weekend if it'll stop raining and maybe a few beauty shoot when it's burning. Cheers
Here you go - some beauty shots. The camera on the phone doesn't have the dynamic range for night time pics. The first light attempt was not a winner. The lamp blew through 2 mantles, one Petromax old stock and one new stock with less than 5 minutes of burn time on each before the mantles were shredded. I replaced the OEM jet with a new Petromax and everything is good. It's a shame because the jet was marked Aida Germany. The only other parts that were replaced were seals and such. And the pressure gauge. The original may or may not work. (Note to self -just go ahead and replace the jet going forward) Fargo mantle by the way. Cheers and thanks for all of the support. I have a possible basket case Petromax lantern coming in this week. Whee!
