Does anyone have one of these Tilley shades (or its frame)? I’m interested in its construction. [Image from Reference Gallery post by @Bo Ryman] Cheers Tony
I hope someone has one Tony. Unfortunately I don’t but I’d be interested to see what it looks like fitted on a PL53.
I thought that, too, Jean — I would like to see one on a PL53. I’m thinking about making one using kangaroo velum. Cheers Tony
@george There are two models: S67 for the TL11 and S68 for the PL53 “when used indoors”. I assume the S68 shade has a lager fitter at the top. Tony
Good question posed Tony! I'd like to see one as well. Is it vellum panels corded/roped along the sides I wonder? Alec.
@Rangie I think so… but not certain. If I were to reproduce it I would use panels. It’s the I'm trying to work out. Cheers Tony
I don't see why not, this shade from the 1950's does and the fitter is the same size as for a 1930's lamp. Here's the "but". The "Square" shade is advertised as being 8" (203mm) deep, measured vertically, the shade above is only 7 1/4" (184mm) deep, which leaves only 1/2" (13mm) between the top of the pump knob and the bottom of the shade. There's no way pressure can be added without lifting the shade. The fitter on the Square shade is shown to be level with the top of the shade, on this shade it is 1 1/2" lower down which when resting on the enamelled hood leaves the top of the shade 1" below the level at which the hot exhaust gas exits the hood thus reducing the risk of damaging the shade.
Thanks, @Henry Plews. That’s very useful. Also: What I meant to say above was: “It’s the hinging I'm trying to work out.” Cheers Tony
