THIS Mil-Spec, newly topped off with a shade.

Shade is sold to fit a Petromax, but not a Px product of course. Chromed steel. It fits the Mil-Spec without any modification necessary. I used a matt Forest Green stove paint to spray on the top surface …

… leaving the underside as it was.

    Love this.

And given my Coleman bday lantern seems to be non-existent (12/82), perhaps a 1982 SMP Military lantern is the way to go!

Great job on the shade, looks better than the military shades I’ve seen

    Nice tip @presscall
Is that shade meant for an 829?
    Thanks

@JohnL Sold to fit a Petromax HK500, but I used it on THIS Trainite (Hong Kong) …

… until I decided it was preferable to pair it up with the Mil-Spec. Partly it was my dismay that the top surface had flash-rusted after rainfall - you get what you pay for I guess - so it was a short step from cleaning that off to a light sanding to provide a key for the paint.

Add Current price on ebay UK (I think the same source) is £35.99, so I’m not sure my “you get what you pay for” comment is apposite. Cheap? Maybe expecting non-ferrous for that is unrealistic.

Add 2 I’ve confirmed that when I bought it two years ago it was £10 less.
