    Hi all,

    Has anyone sealed a leaky kerosene fount from the outside, rather than the inside, using a tank sealer?

    Seems to me it would be 1) easier, 2) easy for future users to identify the fount has had some work on it.

    It would be easy enough to just invert a Petromax fount and add the sealer, wouldn’t it?

    Cheers

    @Buckaroo

    Are you talking about the base plate?

    Yes @Tony Press .

    Could you not just use tank sealer on the base plate?

    Or is that a stupid suggestion for reasons not yet known to me :?

    Whenever I’ve used tank sealer, I’ve used it inside the tank, and I’ve applied moderate pressure to the tank to force the sealer into stress cracks.

    The only external sealing I’ve done is with solder. On that point, I saw a repair the other day where solder had been spread over the entire base plate.

    My concern about trying a tank sealer externally would be the pressure of the operating lantern causing the seal to lift away from the plate.

    Maybe I’ll do an experiment and report back
