    Welcome, @D Pinsent

Are you preheating it for two minutes or so out of the wind?

    Ok…

You need to check everything is firm, including the burner tube and cap.

You should also check the vapouriser nipple.

There may be wasp nests or spiders in the air tubes.

Is there a mantle on it? I usually test first without a mantle, but check as above.

    Cheers

    Tony

Thank you - will try again. What happens when there is no mantle ?

I test my lamps at low pressure without a mantle. If you end up with a uniform blue-bluish flame your lamp is working properly. Big yellow smokey flame means something is wrong.

Thank you. I have narrowed it down to an enlarged jet and have ordered a replacement.

Have you checked for wasp/spiders in all the places they can get to?

Also… is the burner mesh ok?

Photos of the lantern might help us.

    Cheers

Thanks Tony. It appears to be in good condition. The generator tube is clean and I can see light through all of the generator filling. It is difficult to see the interior of the mixing tube but there are definitely no spiders ! It is such a simple system which makes it so frustrating !

Just a thought, you are using kerosene as fuel, not Lamp fuel?
I have had a mud wasp build a nest in the top of the mixing chamber. Hard to find and only found it when I flushed it out with high pressure water. :-k
