Tilley TL 10 tank around 1922-1924 Similar tank than Latest Tilley TL 5, Burner and Shade from Tilley TL10 about 1926.Some parts missing one gallery Pin and Hexagon Control cock.
What a nice find. I still don't have one of these with the fount mounted valve. I think I have seen maybe four over the years. You might like this though. One of the few had the base plate removed and re soldered and here is a picture of the inside. ::Neil::
Thank you for sharing. Interesting the a number of lamps shown in the sales leaflets aren't listed in the gallery - HL16, TL5 and the OL48 and the PL with the different top for 55/- ??
That would be because they're as rare as hens' teeth. (Apostrophe police, hope I've got that one in the right place).
@Jean J “Hen’s teeth” = the teeth of one hen; “Hens’ teeth” = the teeth of hens (plural). It works both ways and I’m uncertain whether the expression refers to a singular hen, or all hens. I have many hens, but have found no teeth yet. Cheers Tony
@Mackburner, how does the valve work? It seems to me the pressurized fuel gets up the pipe to the valve and then into the vaporizer? Will the valve leak fuel if the pressure is too high?
The valve is a diaphragm type and I don't think it will leak under pressure. I have never examined one of these myself but I do have these images from Greg McCourt who owned one. ::Neil::
Now there's a name I haven't heard for a long time. We swopped emails occasionally and I bought a few lanterns from Greg - but not for many years...
Thank you Neil for the photos. So the valve is used to control/shut off the fuel flow as an addition to the control cock only operating the cleaning needle? My first impression as I saw the lamp was that it is a valve that releases air from an over pressurized fount.
Yes the cock only operates the pricker. First time I saw one of these I also thought pressure release but it is a main control valve. Bit over engineered perhaps though. ::Neil::
The advertising statement "Varying from 50 to 300 candle power..." is then owed to the function of the valve?
