Not often seen The Coleman Duo Lite and Reflector. Lantern 242C June 1949 Turns an Outdoor Lantern into an Indoor Lamp. Colin
Base is pressed metal, one good reason why not many survived. This one is in good nick, must have been indoors. I wish the base was ceramic Colin
I thought the duo lite had a special shade attachment that screwed into the top of the lantern-the threaded hole being in the crimped vent insert? Dan
Pretty sure you are right Dan, I looked at the one on Terry's site and this appears to be the case. I guess I will have to throw this one in the scrap metal bin as it's incomplete. Colin
No offence intended, Colin. A friend and I have been researching the various combinations of the duo-lite. There was a ceramic base on the USA version. quite rare. I think you are using yours exactly as Coleman intended. To mount the parchment shade you would need an early 242 lantern, which had a threaded receptacle and a stud with a ball nut, all mounted in the center of the ventilator. I saw one of the Canadian ones on ebay recently. It went for several thousand US dollars. Best wishes, Dan
Actually I should update this, as the Coleman 242 series were all made to accept a shade on the vent stud with the finial screwed down on top of it. I have pamphlets of Duo-Lite combinations that might not have existed. And hardware that exists but is not in the pamphlet.
