Have you thought about trying a 350 jet instead of a 500 to test to see if you can lean the mixture off?
For the collar, I've seen brass ones on e-bay from one of the Korean sellers (lovelantern I think). Got a chromed one and it's good quality.
I don't know if you are aware but Old Coleman Parts stocks replacement graphite packing and it doesn't take too long to get a shipment from them!
