Here is a Kitson table lamp would think its mid 1920s runs on paraffin and the intensity of the light and the on\off is by the air release screw on the pump. cheers pete
I have always wondered if this one is correct. I have a couple of illustrations of this lamp in a flyer and a hardware journal which show it with a stem. Maybe they did make a short version. Mind you we have so little info on Kitson that I hesitate to say it is wrong. fantastic lamp either way. If you can I would love to have a set of images of the burner. That one shot you gave us is great but I would like to see a couple more rotated to see it from different angles. ::Neil::
Hi neil i will take more pics of the burner and post reckon this lamp is right and i know of another one as well in this short version cheers pete
Pete. You may well be right and it was made that way. Just because I don't have paper to prove it does not mean I don't believe it. It does mean I have to question it. Another one or two the same would go a long way to convincing me. Sometimes you just have to balance probability. One with no paper is a maybe. Three is a strong probability. ::Neil::
Okay neil lets hope after this post your convinced i have taken more pictures of the burner for you and there is a picture of the pricker wire which is missing from mine but i know a man who's got one. Now i thought this would be mid 1920s but kitson stopped trading under the name Kitson Empire in 1922 so maybe earlier. Now the patent for this burner went out in FEB 1915 the drawing shows a lot of a donut lamp too like yours? but it seems to be the same burner. So we know there is one more of these around but his has a steel tank mine was nickel plated originally but poor condition so i stripped it back his is painted black to preserve the steel tank and here is the advert i knew i had somewhere just could not find it so the lamp is a New Model Domestic Lamp D1 Type as this from july 1915 shows it cheers pete
Pete. Excellent. Hard evidence which I had not seen before and all doubts removed. One I will now add to the list. Great stuff. Can you please let me have a bigger image of that advert and the burner images. Nice to have one confirmed as the real thing. Interesting that the patent is so early. I had always assumed this burner with the coil was later but at that date it has to be earlier than the simple type in the Kitson lamps I have. Great burner images too many thanks. ::Neil::
Okay neil knew i would win you over with the post i downloaded the patent off internet somewhere the advert must have come from mick when i got the lamp i am bit disorganised here only found it again this morning been lost since feb!! This lamp could date 1915-22 from the evidence nice early lamp, I will email images\add to your email cheers pete
Sure all I ever need is proof. Got to be good though and I never mind being proved wrong because that means I get closer to the truth. Kool stuff and thanks. ::Neil::
