I think I got the date interval correct with the help of some papers I most kindly got from Nils. But if I'm incorrect, I gladly would like some input so I could change the facts accordingly. I got this lantern just recently, but since I have a weakness for old lanterns with mica globes, I let it jump ahead in the "line of lamps/lanterns to be dealt with". A good cleanup is practically all I have done apart from some straightening up of the frame and the usual soldering of the 119-plague: the cracked collar. Here's a picture with the parts. Usually I seldom bother to take everything apart. Like the box-nut and control spindle- The grafite inside there is generally still usable when you get an old apparatus, but by taking it off the spindle you often damage it when it passes the threads for the control wheel. Or the safety cap of Radius. It seldom needs to be taken apart, but this is the first lantern (or stove) I have which actually let me disassemble the cap just by using my fingers, so I took it apart nevertheless. And finally a "before-picture". We who collect this stuff hve learned to tell when a dirty lantern will clean up real nice despite all grime, and that's a good thing for our wallets since most people just see these as junk. : Some shots with it running will (hopefully) come soon, but as it is now, I feel that I must get myself a pint or two...
Thanks Jeff. Yes this one came out real nice. The tank has some roughness in the plating, but all in all in a quite decent condition. The plating on the hood is almost as new, and even the plating of the collar came out surprisingly nice even if I had to heat it almost to dull red in order to be able to bend it back for the soldering. I only needed to put a new cleaning needle in it (that's why you see the small paper envelope on the overview picture instead of an old needle).
I got it running, and it worked just as smooth and silent as you would expect a 119 to do. First the test without a mantle to see that everything works as it shall. And then the real deal. The mandatory pint of ale you get yourself as a reward after the first well performed test are there too, of course.
