This model was introduced in 1936 and only sold for a year before it was "Improved" with model 243A. It is a 175cp gasoline lantern advertised as a "New low priced single mantle light". It retailed in 1936 at $5.95 which is $2 cheaper than the contemporary model 242B. The pump is a European type with a single check valve and a locking bar on the pump spindle. I suspect it was this pump check design that propted the change in the following year as it is not as safe to use as the more normal double check valve pump in Coleman products. You can see also that there is no top fitter bolt but just a locating button and the hood is held in place with the bail handle. I can't run this one because the pump check does not hold and I cannot get the wretched thing out to fettle it. I am reluctant to use too much force which may cause some damage. There is only a single digit year stamp in the base. I would normally expect a lantern at this time to have month and year stamps but there is no vestige of a second number in this one. However as this model was only sold for one year it has to be a 6 for 1936.
you can get them out with a checkvalve tool. the tool will not screw in so dont worry about that part just support the fount in a firm pillow and press fairly hard with the tool while holding the fount firm and twist the tool with pliers and it should come right out. i have done this a few on my nrvs and it works everytime. make sure you have constant downforce while turning.
