This Primus model 1019 with AB code is identical to the ubiquitous 1020 model. Its 'raison d'être' therefore lies in the steel tank and steel lamp cage as opposed to the brass components of its plentiful sister. All this within the great revision, with economy in mind, of many Primus products around 1935. Intended to cut cost by the application of steel instead of brass, it called for the tinning of the lamp cage to prevent corrosion. When alight, and thus hot, this tin ran down the four styles to form tears... Together with obvious corrosion problems in the tanks, and the plating of steel even a bigger problem than on brass, Primus aborted the use of steel,and dropped the two steel stove models of that same era as well. Note that the knob, to clear the nozzle with the build-in needle, is a (plated) steel replacement of the former solid brass item after 1935. This 1019 model is rare, with few specimen known among collectors.
Hi ! Well you had me baffled for ages there trying to understand what part ,the back door key played in unlocking the lamp. But I think or hope its really a magnet !! If not I ain't got a hope of getting it right !! ...........mick
