    Lucky again! I was given this great lantern. Just cleaned, changed globe and fitted a mantle. Gasoline and light.

    Nice looking lantern, and, yes you’re very lucky indeed. This is a good lantern to have.

    Now you need a 237 that runs on kerosene..... :D

    Just 39. Does it mean 1939 or something else?

    That number 39 would indicate your 236 was manufactured in the year 1939. If you look on the other side of the of the writing you should see a number that represents the month of the year.

    For example
    Here you can see the number 7 just before the word “MADE” representing the month of July and 52 after the word “CANADA” representing the year 1952

    Almost illegible there is an 8, so august 1939.

    Behind the lantern there is a"moderateur" burner. Is a kind of burner and lamp designed and produced in France to burn heavy vegetal oils.
