    Hello everyone !

This is my Wartime Hasag 351L Gaoline lantern (Petrol). i date this one to, around 1944, because the glasscylinder is marked 44, of course it also could have been made later like 1945, but probably not after that year. some say this is a Whermacht lantern, some say it's just wartime. anyways, It runs on Gasoline and can be preheated with gasoline or kerosene as well as Alcohol due to the clever design of the pre heater cup, that has a liftable cage, in the photos you see here the lantern is preheated with gasoline in the first photo, and kero in the second photo.

I should mention that the rivets holding the plaquets in the cage has been changed out, they now are of a different design, the originals has holes in the center. The pump leather can be oiled with out disassembly through that neat oil hole under the pump knob. Many parts including the inner hood are Enamelled. The Hasag name is seen everywhere including on the top vent (image showing the imprint from the inside).

The colours are close to the German WWII RLM81 ( Braunviolett) on the top vent and RLM83 (Dunkelgrün) on the fount, inner vent & outer vent.

    Regards Frederik

That is not an oil hole for the pump. Its a opening for the lock nut on the pump knob.

    Hello Frederik,
that's a nice find. I've got the same variant, but it was in this condition when I bought it:
    1484940249-s-l1600_00a.jpg 1484941676-s-l1600_02.jpg
Luckily I was able to restore it to original condition because the electrocution was done carefully, and I had all needed spare parts at hand from some other donors. From the side shown in the picture you can see a decal from a well-known German reseller which tells "Starklicht Otte K.-G. Stammhaus Bochum, Zweigniederlassung Rönkhausen", whereas on the other side the small blue/gold "HASAG" decal can be found.

Obviously there are several variants of the 351L, and this one in particular has a dark grey/greenish laquered tank, grey enamelled hood ring and a brown cap. But besides that one I have now 5 other versions of the 351L which seem to be original, since they show up in the same configuration from time to time. Four of them are shown in the following photo:
    1484941101-20170120_203500a.jpg
Unfortunately none of them has a date stamp.

Yes i kind of figured that, because of the hole design, unfortunately my pump does not have the lock knob, anyways, it works good as an oil hole ;)

    Hello Martin & YOSH

Nice collections, i have a number of Hasag/Mewa/schatz lanterns and yes, they really runs and looks good.
I did run my Wartime 351L on gasoline yesterday and it works flawless, even though a bit noisy when running on Gasoline.

    Frederik,

the two with the light/dark green tank in the background are most likely "MEWA" built by "VEB Leipziger Werke" in GDR after the war. You can see that from the pricker dial (bakelite wheel with "pointer") and the filler cap, which are different from those used at the earlier Hasag types. However, in a technical sense these are mostly identical to the Hasag 351L. More different is the BAT 270 and some other types made by VEB Leipziger Werke, e.g. those equipped with ceramic burners and slim shaped vaporizers.

If somebody would be more interested in the particulars of the differences I could make some photos maybe at the next weekend, and maybe make up another post in the discussion area.

According to the manual you can run them on both petrol and paraffin, and also my experience is that they sound noisier on petrol, in particular in the first few minutes when they are cold.

    Hi Martin,

These are my HASAG and related lanterns, they are from left to right.

HASAG 51A Probably late 1930's to early 1940's
HASAG 351L this one had a Steel tank, but i had to change it out becuase of a pump tube failure, has the same handle and needel wheel as the 51A, and i believe it's from the same period as the 51A, HASAG 351L Whermacht circa 1944, MEWA post war, and the Schatz 551L, basicly an over engineered 51L.

    1485196606-2017-01-23_18_opt__1_.jpg 1485196629-2017-01-23_18_opt.jpg

The twoo HASAG 351L's are very similar, but the MEWA has alot of small differences, such as no light hole hatch, smaller preheater, different vapourizer, and a DDR marked top nut.

Just realized i forgot to say hi to both of you, so sorry about that and hi YOSH.
My MEWA Lantern has the nikelplated Brass fount with tha HASAG brand imprinted, som suggest that the old HASAG brand was used for Export (known brand) and indeed , this one was found in Finland.
