This is the second version of a Guardsman lantern which replaced the first type in 1954. It has a redesigned tank which has a groove around the base flange and the tank is stamped with "Tilley England" and the Owl logo. It also has a clip type fitter for the handles so the handle can be located in an upright position. Tilley began date marking their product in November 1956 so examples of this lantern after that date will have a date stamp in the base plate. Earlier examples will have no date stamp. This version was replaced in September 1957 with another redesign of the tank which has no groove around the base flange.
