This "lantern/stove" combination by King Seeley has a movable shutter to shut off the light and perhaps redirect the heat to the top where slider bars extend to form a pot rest. How effective this was as a stove escapes me as I have never lit this. It came with the box, all the sales info, and instructions which I will post in the appropriate place.

    Bob,

I did a test with a cup & 1/2 of water in a sauce pan. With the globe installed and the slider open, my Kooklite took 8 minutes to bring to boil. If the globe were removed and the slider closed, it may take less time

The slider closed definitely makes a difference.
Protect those globes if they're originals!

OH! I should probably add... the topic title should probably be altered. The maroon paint was discontinued by November of 1953! Yup.
This lantern dates from (possibly 1949)1950-1953.
Red paint was introduced by November, and the old style pump discontinued about 1955.
