An AV2 1956 Primus 1020 Straight-Vapouriser Storm Lantern. The last variant near the end of production of these workhorses Came as a runner (just), using a tilley preheater which was very effective. the mica has bad cataracts so a Suprax glass has been substituted for now (would Mica still have been an option in 1956?) Stripped for a thorough clean-out. Lots of carbon in the vapouriser, it cleaned up nicely and easily! Reassembled and fitted with a Peerless 24A. Hood in very good condition! New mantle burned-in and running well. I have around 10 hours running on this lamp so far and I'm impressed with its light output and stable running, easy to see why they are so common/favoured Alec.
Well done, you’ve done an excellent job of restoration. I can’t help but see a parallel in this Primus lantern and the Veritas 350 lantern. Both excellent lanterns. Enjoy Pete
Nice restoration Alec and working well (as it should ). Is the nut holding the glass cage to the tank the original (for you)? This is the nut used on the 1060 and it is the first time I have seen one on a 1020. Maybe at the end of the 1020 production they ran out of the correct one and used what was at hand.
Well Spotted Nils, I noticed this anomaly as well Its certainly the one from this lantern. I checked the others I have (X, Z, AC) and they have the usual "Dome Nut" for want of a better phrase. Feel free to send me a 1060 for comparison purposes, I'll cover the postage, its a hole in my line-up anyway Alec.
