I received this unfired X458 dated on the base 1060XA, so October of 1960. Sold by AW Thacker in either Clermont Florida or Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
Congratulations Dan. I think you may be surprised at what this would fetch on ebay .co.uk These weren't sold in the UK so they are very desirable.
@dday A very nice lantern to have in your collection and in unfired condition too. Now for the silly question: What is the purpose of the long spring please? Regatds Jeremy
At a guess, I'd say the end you can't see hooks onto the wire guard around the globe and stops the burner et al from sliding off the vapouriser in the event of a mishap. Henry.
I have a few never used CH1 hoods still in the boxes and I never did work out what the spring is for. They do have loops on each end and originally are about half this length. They are a soft spring and over stretch easily. I assumed it was to stop the glass rattle against the cage but did not work out a way to do it without buggering the spring. Nice lamp Dan. Is that the right vapouriser on it . I assume it is. I hope you are not going to light it..
@dday Wow! Nice one! Great to see one in 'As New' condition, thank you so much for showing! They are such a dinky little lantern, almost a 'Pocket' size!
Nice one, Dan! But if you don't light it, how will you ever get some flounder for fish n' chips?! There's always Cap'n Highliner! Mike.
