Here's the first of the Al15a's finished. Complete with a new Mica shade that I got with another Al15 but it sets this one off better. I picked some mantles up off ebay the other day too that go well with this lamp. Perhaps I'll make a box like Stephan's to keep it safe in or perhaps a double when the other is finished.
Damn its nice Matthew. The green light colour really makes it spiffy Well done you Lucky potato. Claus C
Thanks for all the nice comments guys, I hope the other turns out as well. I'll post it in due course. Kenny, the paint is ford crystal green, as suggested in one of David's posts. Seems to be a good match to the original, although there wasn't a lot left for me to compare.
Replacement decals are currently available on ebay, so I decided I'd get a couple. I'm really pleased with the end result.
It looks very nice Matthew, welldone . When you use such a decal, do you then have to spray or secure the decal-surface before attaching it to the lamp with ex lacquer Didnt Basecamp also have decals for sale once? Claus C
Hi Claus, I'm not sure if I was right using the word decal, they are actually stickers with a self adhesive backing. The seller does state that you can lacquer over them once fitted, but they are supplied with a protective coating sprayed on.
Are these decals or stickers, Matt? If they're stickers, how thick are they? I was a bit concerned they'd be thicker than decals and would stand out a bit. Yours looks good...
I was so dazzled by Matt's picture and I've been meaning to ask about those stickers for ages, I didn't read his subsequent post... I was going to buy one/some but I was put off when the seller confirmed they were actually self-adhesive stickers. I presume the 'paper' can be bought, either retail or online, so it ought to be quite easy to use the versions printed on here for our use...
Yes it sure would be nice to see some of the most common Tilley-marks in a good print thrown out here on the site like Matthias so generously has done to the Hasag-marks Claus C
They are stickers David, not very thick, but I don't have the equipment to tell you how many thou they are. They do stand a little proud of the surface but they do the job. Edit: took me so long to type the above you both got in before me. The seller calls it vinyl and looking back I see he says its 80 microns thick (3.14961 thou).
