This model 350 replaced model 300 sometime in the mid 1950s. I have paper dated 1952 which shows model 300 and 1957 showing model 350 like this one. I guess the model was available for most of the 1960s as well. This lantern is one of a pair that came in a well made wooden case which I guess was possibly military. There are no markings to indicate the intended original purchaser though. The second lantern seems to be missing and I have no clue where it is. Be around here somewhere I guess. ::Neil::

The 'new' lantern series from Optimus (350, 550, 1350 and 1550) was introduced in 1957. The 350 continued until some time in the 1970s I believe.

The version shown here is the last variation and would have been made in the late 1960s or 1970s. The most obvious changes were in how the label was attached (originally with rivets) and the test on the wheel (originally with the Optimus name as well).

The box has similarities to the Norwegian sets that turn up with either Høvik Verk or Optimus lanterns.

I kinda thought you might put me right over the date. Thanks for that. Looking through my collection list I should have an earlier version somewhere around as well as the other one from the box. I also have a couple of versions of model 300 but both of these are specials treated in the factory with a special paint which makes then invisible for most of the year and they are not due to reappear for another six months yet so I can't find them to post. ::Neil::
