I acquired this Coleman 339 kerosene lamp today via Freecycle. The chap I got it from said that he bought it new in Nigeria in 1978. It came with a set of instructions (posted in the Reference Library) that are in English, French, Spanish and Afrikaans. It is missing it's glass and has some light surface rust but otherwise seems OK. The date on the bottom is February 1975.
Nice lanterns these. I have a couple and they work very well. I think they are about the best of the lanterns made in the period. ::Neil::
Finally got around to cleaning it up and acquiring a glass and mantle. Only problem with it is that the control knob was jammed and someone had tried to force it and stripped the teeth off the centre so it now just spins on the spindle. Have to turn it on & off with a pair of pliers! Looked on Basecamp for the knobs but none are listed for the 339. Does anyone know if any other type fits? Lit it today for the first time. A bit of pulsing for the first few minutes then settled down happily.
