    I bought this lantern from a service man who said it was his grandfathers, so I thought I would restore it to its former glory.

    I had not come across a 1A Aladdin with a hood. very cool
    I set about stripping down and cleaning up parts

    I have up graded the jet and needle, I replaced the old original with a Radius 119 jet and needle I bought from Korea . a fine bit of machining , I also cut a new thread in the top of the generator to suit the new jet, the threads are similar but I could not screw the new jet into the old generator all the way 20190509_214629.jpg

    I cleaned and shined everything

    its looking good, I etched primed the tank and hood, spray painted them as close to olive drab as possible

    Great work, Darryl. :thumbup:

    Is that hood steel or aluminium?

    It looked mor like copper, it had some almost like chrome patches come streaking, on both sides.

    Try a magnet... it could be “coppered” steel (I’ve seen a few of these recently for Kayen).

    @Darryl Durdin

    Darryl, TW Sands in Melbourne sell replacement jet and needle for the Aladdin 1A which are the correct thread and length (119 needles are shorter than Aladdin).

    Good work Darryl, it's looking good.
    I have one of these to build and your pictures will be a handy reference.
