Here are two of my copper ML., tanks, the smaller one probably dates from the late 1920s, the larger one is from the 1930s.

The small tank is not deep enough to take a pump, so a filler/preesure cap is fitted, Jeff.

Here is the larger copper Tilley ML93 fount from the mid to late 1930's, in an oak Veritas woodblock that was used for a centre draft wick lamp.

Sometimes wick centre draft or side draft mantle lamps were fitted into these blocks.

The globe is a Pyrex glass gas globe.

Here is the smaller copper tank in a tall oak stand.

This gallery has threaded bolts and threaded apertures, instead of bolts and springs to hold the globe.

The globe is a rather old etched gas globe.

All of the copper ML., tanks which I have had and I have had at least 20, have been designed for the XN., control cock.

So in my opinion, all copper tanks must be pre-1939/40, as that was when Tilley changed to the GF., control cock.

They do turn up with different sizes and shapes of riser tubes, (that's what the control cock screws into).

Tilley continued to make the brass ML., tank after 1939/40, so many of the brass ML., tanks which turn up are designed for the GF., control cock only.

I have yet to see a brass ML., tank which has more than the mere rim of a riser tube.

All of the above information is my opinion, which is based on experience and common sense.

There is Tilley paperwork which shows that the change over from the XN., control cock to the GF., control cock took place in 1939/40, Jeff.
