there is a lead washer that seals the control valve to the fount on my Austramax 3/300 lantern and has developed a slight leak. I have tighten the contol valve up to the fount but the lead washer that seals between the two is distorted and squashed making it hard to seal and allow the valve to screw into the correct orientation. the lamp is working ok for now (currently is running as I type tonight), but I really need to replace the washer any clues where to get lead washers? or is there an alternative? I suppose I could try and punch a washer out of sheet lead, but dont have any punches to make a clean cut washer
since I "nipped" up and tightened down the control cock the lamp hasn't leaked from the washer and it ran ok for over two hours last night without the need to re-pump it up. I am a bit loathe to fiddle with it again as have the control cock facing the right way without leaking. not sure of the size, should have measure the OD and ID when I had it apart. I'm going prospecting for a few days next week so will take it to use while camped out in the bush and give it a good run
I would get one "just in case" - these things have a habit of coming back to haunt you Of course if the prospecting goes well you could use a bit of gold ?
