This one belongs to Henry Plews. It has been in my house a few times and I took some pictures a while back. I does work very well but I don't have a working image of it although it has been displayed working at Ipswich and Newark. ::Neil::
Yes Henry hangs it from the front loop. Not a very good image but you can see it hanging in the middle of the frame here at Ipswich in 2008 with its owner trying to fettle a reluctant lamp underneath it. ::Neil::
I think I took these images at the Petromax Treffen when it was held near Apeldoorn in the Netherlands. Henry.
Yes it is a pity; the lamps always look incomplete don't they? However, they do burn much brighter without them and as this type of lamp was mainly used under the cover of a market stall where they don't really need to be super storm proof, which is why most top hats where discarded. At least, that's the popular theory. I've found that by raising the top hat 20 mm., thus improving airflow to the burner, light output is much improved but fitting a spacer, even as a temporary measure, detracts from the original design.
