Just finished fettling another two wrecks. The cage of the Halifax was shot and loose, so I found a steel slotted one (with brass rods) Which I stripped and polished (it was very rusty and the paint was peeling off). The fuel cap says ‘Vapalux Halifax Eng’ on it. I haven’t seen one like it before. The heat deflector is a modern replica I got from Juliand. The other lamp is a standard 300x and that’s how I got it minus rust, cobwebs, flaking paint and grime. Is the Vapalux reasonably ‘time correct’ with that cage or not? I know the tank should have been bigger ( like the ones on the E41) and the globe should have a lighting hole)? I’m still waiting for a set of seals from the FB. I think they make a nice pair. I love running lanterns in pairs side by side. Slightly different models but in almost identical pairs. Just like the PL53s I have: brass and steel tank, burning side by side. The next fettle is a an X246 pork pie with removable cage, to provide a pair buddy to the short bail one I have! Take 2...! Pairs! Hi @Alex74
Originally the slotted frame would have gone with the wider, dumpy tank, and the glass with the hole in. Your tank is a later 300X.
The stamped fuel caps turn up now and again and are probably from the earliest 300s you’ll note there is no split pin on the air release screw... This my unrestored version, sadly glass is cracked.
