    Just finished cleaning this up. The original glass was broken but luckily I had an identical made in England shot blasted globe in stock. The hood is a replacement, it's been refurbished at some point before I got it but the original is a little rough for display. I'll keep it incase I decide to light up.

    @Matthew92 Stunning lantern, you must be pleased. A most impressive fettle and quality photo's. Slightly envious, I've not picked one up yet.

    Thanks all, @Greenboy23 I thought you might like it, we seem to have similar taste when it comes to lamps. Shame we won't be fighting over any at Newark this year. :lol:

    @Alex Smith I am very pleased with how it turned out. It's sat for probably 3-4 years since I bought it and I never thought it would clean up particularly well. But it was £15 so I couldn't resist at the time. Now I need to find room for it.

    @Matthew92 For £15 I would have bitten the sellers arm off. You've done well, both with purchase and particularly your fettle.

    @Matthew92 A very good looking scout you have there.
    Is there a recess for the wingnut in the frame base and could you please post a picture of the valve assembly and frame base. Thank You.

    Very, very nice. Does your preheat cup have the little notch for an asbestos wick that hung down to the lighting hole?

    Nice one mate, that’s almost a mint hood too.
    These 249s run really well on straight kerosene.
    Well done on the fettle.
    Cheers

    No recess for the wing nut, I know what you mean though, my 247 does have it.

    @podbros

    Was it definitely oven cleaning products you bought and not for the toilet?;):lol::lol:

    @MikeO

    Yes, or at least I gather that's what this little notch is for?

    @Alenstein

    Still got the price tag to prove it.:lol: Assuming that I didn't haggle, that I can't remember.:lol::lol:

    @AussiePete

    Thank you, the hood is as I mentioned not original, it has had new enamel. It looks good, but is quite lightweight compared to the others I have, it's all the same colour inside and out. I'm not sure how well it would stand up to use.

    There may have been just a 'tad' of confusion flying about... a small amount..almost negligible:^o

    No, i seem to have purchased the correct item which does seem to have been made for the use of cleaning a W.C.

    Not quite sure where i got 'oven cleaner' from, though..:-k ..:whistle:

    And i don't use it on the loo, despite what Johnny Cash says! :lol::lol::lol:

    Great looking Lantern too! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

    Thank you. I have not found out anything about when and where the flat frame base without the wing nut recess was used.
    I have two 1944 249 Scouts, one base with the recess and the other without and a 1950
    249 with the flat frame base.

    Here's an example of a C/39 249 with the string...
