well project came to a halt while I wait for parts-- so as not to waste an evening I started on the fabrication for the hanger nut on top-- going to cast them out of a nickle zinc alloy-- should be strong enough--but if not I'll borrow my buddies oy-acetlyne torch and make them out of brass-- here's the scenario to make the mold - the mold needs to dry completely so maybe tomorrow or the next night I will actually cast some an important note-- if direct cast into this mold in MUST be completely dry and surrounded by a metal jacket and bound tite with wire-- a coffee can filled with sand works fine ~~ of if you use the mold to make wax plugs for lost wax casting make sure you use a release agent in the mold
here is a video I just shot using one of my old plumbers pot furnace to melt the zinc!-- love these monster GPA things!!
Well done Bruce. It marvellous how we, as lamp collectors, are so adept in learning new skills to fettle our treasures. Cheers Pete
this whole lantern/lamp hobby has really made me expand my knowledge and abilities in the shop-- some times even I am surprised about what we can learn to do if we can't find a part !! :-) ~~~ my whole reproduction project for the 316 LANTERNS started because I cold not find a collar on ebay---- it got out of hand quickly !!! ha ha
@Bruce Kuda and there lies one of the great attractions for our hobby, the ingenuity and resources that we conjure up. Cheers Pete
