The Coleman 236 (aka 'Major') lantern is well represented in the Gallery. My Canadian made single mantle lantern was manufactured in May 1955 and was in fair condition when I bought it just over one year ago.

A rusted bail and base, some markings on the nickel fount, and a radio knob fitted as a replacement valve wheel required some attention. Alas, the replacement knob I got which looks fine has Made in USA so a trivial discrepancy. The globe should be bulged, so maybe at some time I will pick one up as I do like them.

The Canadian model 236 came out in 1938 as a 500 cp lantern and mine appears to be the earlier version with a ventilator hood with 4 rows of holes and the rounded bail where it enters the ventilator. I like this sturdy single mantle workhorse.

Your Coleman 236 has restored very well.

I can supply you with a Schott bulge globe if you wish. PM me.
