Coleman 290A, Oct 1992. The stencil on the tank and the handwritten number/letter combination on the case suggest military use. (Fount stenciled "I or 1 Sect" (Section), the case has handwritten "31B" (which suggests a call sign for radio use).
@Alex Smith Any chance this could in some way be connected to the Israeli Self Defense Forces? Possibly not MOD UK but not sure. I would rule out US altogether though. Dutch , maybe? Still a very nice find!
@george I don't think it is IDF. I think it more likely an off the self purchase for the MOD UK at some time. As well as the style and type of writing on the lantern and case, the case also contained an unused Vapalux Mantle in it.
Humm... you may be right. Some MOD repair depot threw in the Vapalux mantle or someone else, maybe...
There are a number of possibilities with this one - I'm going to chalk it up to a military used lantern! Next task is to get it running smoothly. I tired lighting it today, and after 30 seconds it pulsed and blew a big hole in the base of one of the mantles. I'll get it stripped down and see what could cause it to do this.
