Coleman Air-O-lantern fettle

    Another oldie that needed some service. Mostly 1918-19 parts. Needed the steel valve shaft resurfaced and packing replaced. Note the stamped patent date on the air tube. A mis-stamp on the back and another on the side. A puzzling leather washer under the valve assembly.... Poor folks have poor ways I suppose :)

    Well done on the fettle she’s running like a champ.

    I had an air tube on a similar lantern, that needed straightening and I was successful in doing so using a drill bit the size of the air tube as a mandrill and tapping out the dents with a wooden mallet.

    Thanks Pete. I've got some rod stock here for just that purpose that I've used in the past... I've gotten to where I only use it on the very nice pieces. I try not to completely wipe away the history of these GPA's :D I like it when they can still tell their story a little bit. Just as long as they run correctly is mainly what I'm shooting for :thumbup:
