Here are various Coleman Canada parts boxes and mantle bags left to right, from the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's. I guess the left orange and black colors of the German National flag became unpopular around 1939 when Coleman changed to military drab colors of the center 1940's, and then the post WW2 bright red white and blue.
I think we will never know the reasons behind changing the colours of the boxes, I can only clarify that the national colours of Germany in the years 1933-45 were black, white and red. In 1948 we got back to the colours black, red and gold of the weimar republic as a sign of the continuity between the weimar republic and the german federal republic .
