    Hi,
after Leo's post Friday I had to present my Ditmar Maxim 506L as well...
Here it is together with it's wooden box (from the Swiss Telecom):

I bought it last year from Switzerland and took it home myself after the collector's meeting at Lungern.

Martin, maybe the preheater is in wrong position? the lever must be on the right side from the valve wheel

    ...no! [-(
In fact, mine has the Hasag type globe cage support, whereas yours has the original one from Ditmar. Therefore it doesn't fit the other way like at yours and my other Ditmar lanterns (of course I tried it, but no success ](*,)). And believe me: it wasn't easy to mount it back the way it is now!

The way the various controls are separate unlike many other lanterns I have seen reminds me of the Enders 9061 stove... just in the philosophy of course. So the pump, filler cap, pressure gauge, needle control and fuel control are all totally different! I find this level of attention to detail amazing. And the vanes/ribs on the vaporiser is an excellent touch! Is this a sleeve that fits over a smooth tube or integral with the vaporising tube?

Was the frame originally painted red? There are flecks of paint visible.

Do you ever light this beautiful thing and if you do, could we see some photos of the start-up procedure?

No, the vanes/ribs part is firmly soldered onto the vapourizer. In fact there are other Ditmar lanterns that even have an additional removable Aluminium sleeve stuck over that same kind of vapourizer.
No, these are the only paint marks. My guess is that it was a kind of an "owners's mark". So I decided not to remove it while restoring.
Yes I do. However, there's a small leak caused by the dented rim of the tank which I will have to fix at some time. I'll post a few photos at the next occasion. These asbestos wick preheaters run well at kero/paraffin, petrol/gasoline and alcohol as well.
