Hey everybody I'm awaiting a pair of Australian Aladdin 1As from eBay. Looking for some tips on giving them going as well as what I could use for spares for the jet / pricker / pump cup/cap gasket if needed. I've heard that stuff from a Radius 119 will work.

    Welcome, @William G.

Most Radius 119 bits are likely to be compatible, but you need to be very careful with the pricker needle, pricker rod, and nipple combinations.

Some early nipples have a slightly smaller jet (and I'm not sure if its the 119 jets or the 1A jets that are like this (I've just gone through a whole bunch of nipples and indeed the pricker/jets are not always compatible). So bee careful and test beforehand and don't force.

Also, the pricker rods are sightly different lengths, so adjustment of the rod/pricker may be required.

Get back to us if you have any questions.

    Cheers

    Tony

They look good and should clean up nicely.
The acorn nut and plastic pump knob are correct with the black enamel hood.

This is an earlier version of the 1A but the construction is the same.

Check for stress cracks in the fount.

The Flame Spreader might be loose. There is/was an asbestos washer in the construction but it may have broken and fallen out. Stove pipe or muffler putty can be squeezed into the joint as a fix.

Hello @William G , Aladdin 1A lanterns are great lanterns, follow @ROBBO55 thread , Martin has done a top job of restoring an 1A lantern.
I have posted a couple of restoring 1A’s. I used jet and Pricker for the radius 119. They are very similar in my post I re tapped the thread for the jet to suit the 119, the Pricker rod is adjustable ,with a bit trial and error you can set it up. It will burn very bright great performance.

Checked them both out and unfortunately the newer one was stress cracked. The older looking one took a little fettling and came to life fairly easily... A quick clean with oven cleaner in the kitchen sink cleaned up the tank as well as the cage hood and collar. Replaced the pump cup with one from my stock. Borrowed the filler cap off of my Primus 1020 for now I'll make a new cap gasket for it. I also would like to get a better pricker that will work. Also need to tighten up the packing nut for the pricker control as it leaks some fuel but it does run.

Can you post a photo of the stress crack? Some of the Aladdin 1A stress cracks can be easily fixed if the tank isn’t leaking.

New NRV today, tightened up the packing nut for the tip cleaner control shaft it is no longer leaking, and a new Optimus #4 mantle. I just need to sort out a tip cleaner now along with making a new cap gasket. I'm very happy she's running nicely. KIMG5927.JPG KIMG5928.JPG

Here are some photos of the needle and needle rod.

    IMG_6470.jpeg IMG_6469.jpeg

The nut at the bottom of the needle rod is used to adjust the total length of the rod+needle to get the right clearance through the nipple and its jet.

If you use a Radius needle check that it fits the jet of the Aladdin nipple.

    Cheers
