Hi Received this Høvik 102 today. According to info posted by @Nils Stephenson this is the first variation of Høvik 102. The lamp is in good shape. No dents on the fount and hood is almost perfect. The vaporizer is similar to Primus 1020 and is using the same needle and jet. There is a few issues that needs to be solved like pump cup stuck inside pump, glass is missing and needle is stuck inside the jet. Have jet, needle and a replacement glass in my part box. Also need to make some tool to get the pump cup out. There is some liquid in the fount that is black and sticky. Have put meths in the tank to help clean it out. I'm really excited to have found this lamp. Will post more photos in the Reference gallery when finished. Bjørn
Yes George they are indeed rare. HV product was only sold in Norway and very little has escaped. They also made a range of Primus lanterns and stoves under license but again restricted to Norway and not at all common elsewhere. ::Neil::
I did some dismantling of the lantern tonight and cleaned it in citric acid and hot water. It came out quite well. Bjørn
When I study the pictures from this post https://classicpressurelamps.com/threads/høvik-verk-standard-nr-101.12123/ I se that this lantern is named HV 101. So then can mine be a number 2 variation ? Mine is marked HV 102 and has the same vaporizer without Preston loop. Or what ? Any ideas ? Bjørn
Is it just me or does the Høvik 102 look almost identical to a Veritas 350? Maybe it's just me and my mind is going!
Yes, of course. As so little is known about Veritas my guess is they copied anything they wanted from whatever source they felt like, and not always very well either.
That's interesting. I don't remember noticing that the other lamp had the plate stamped with 101. The 101 is mentioned in a catalogue from 1939, but the page with the description on is missing. Some of the parts are the same as the 102, so it's anyone's guess what it actually was. I still think your's is the first variation of the 102.
Finished assembling the lantern tonight. Took some time as my parts box was not so comprehensive as I first thought. Received the necesary bits from Fettlebox, Fogas and Pelam. It cleaned up well. Now I need to fire it up. Hopefully I will have time later this week. When cleaning the dirt from the air intake tube I noticed that it is chromed/nickeled. Bjørn
Could not wait till Saturday. So I filled her up with kerosene and did one preheat and there was light. Bjørn
I was not happy with the light output with this lamp. I had to pump 40-50 times. Not normal. I got some new pump leathers for Scandinavian lamps from Fettlebox. Installed such one and a Colman 99 mantle and performance was much better. Have not measured pump cylinder yet. Bjørn
@AussiePete Thanks Pete Did fire the lamp up tonight and it behaved very well. This is my second lamp with no Preston loop. I need to get myself a Vapalux soon. Bjørn
