I saw this product used on a YouTube channel called Delboy's Garage.

He used it on motorbike exhaust pipes to remove the blueish yellowy heat Mark's and also to get rid of flash rust and it did such a good job I thought I'd get some to try on lanterns.

I tried it on a discoloured chrome Anchor hood that had suffered a major flare up and it worked pretty good... not perfect but much better than it was. I also tried it on a brass Tilley PL53 fount...

It worked very well and you can probably see it had an instant effect on contact. I used an old toothbrush to gently scrub the surface, that's all. It has a small percentage of hydrochloric acid which is why it works I guess.

I will definitely be using it in future but I'll be careful and wash the piece well afterwards.

Colin G, I'm a biker (amongst other things) I also saw this about a year ago, cleaning motorbike front pipe headers and added it in to a conversation about cleaning lamps 6 - 7 months ago. To be fair, a particular product was being discussed, I remember my link (to the exhaust headers) was ignored, well, there were no comments. I was convinced that people were missing out at the time so I am glad you have bought this up again.

@paparazi ... I'm not a biker myself but Delboy's Garage has some really interesting content and I love watching his Hayabusa rebuild! I found it first when he tried out the aluminium brazing/low temp welding - fascinating.

The Harpic Power Plus has now joined my list of lantern cleaning tools alongside Vinegar, citric acid, Mothers Mag and GSR from the stove site - all extremely useful in different circumstances.

That does look good and I’m gunna try it, if I can find it.
I not sure, but I don’t think this particular product is available in my local Woolworths, Although it could be under a different brand name perhaps. I need to check Coles and other like stores.

Has anyone in Aussie found this particular product?

    Cheers
    Pete

Hope you can find some. Sadly we no longer have Woolworths in the UK.

    Take care. Regards Jeremy

I got some of this in the other week and thought it was time to try it out. The original stuff was out of stock, but I got the citrus stuff instead. Seems to get the crude off then a bit of autosol brings it up a treat. This project will go in the gallery when it's finished. Thanks for the heads up @ColinG  IMG_20200517_142335.jpg IMG_20200517_142325.jpg IMG_20200517_142353.jpg IMG_20200517_142345.jpg

I have used it now on a late tilley fount and a primus blowtorch, incredible stuff, just watch out on other metals as it will corrode.

I used it on a vap tube that was rusted solid, it was bad!.........

    Vap tube harpic.jpg

and this was the result of 24 hours soak and a light scouring under hot water..Fantastic stuff!

    Thanks @ColinG

I brushed it onto the aluminium spirit cup and that seemed to start fizzing and foaming. I washed it off quick but I’d say that’s not a good reaction.

I can tell you that the Max X10 is not good with enamel either! It etches the surface and leaves it clean but with a matt finish!

Can you please tell me what that vapouriser was from? An whether you think it was original to the lamp?

It was from a Vapalux 300x 1940's and by the state of the lamp when I got it I would think it was original. (Actually the lamp in my Avatar after restoration)

Please all , remember not to clean your toilets with oven cleaner ok? Especially that caustic stuff on the seats as that will really cause a ring of fire.

Look at the ingredients... if it has a proportion of hydrochloric acid it's the same stuff.
